Student Visa (Subclass 500)

Student visas allow you to participate in a full time eligible course of study in Australia. It enables you to travel in and out of Australia and work up to 20 hours per week.

To be eligible for the Subclass 500 visa, you must:

  • be enrolled and accepted in a full-time course of study in Australia

  • meet the English language requirement

  • have enough money for your stay 

  • make welfare arrangements (if under 18 years of age)

  • meet character and health requirements 

  • purchase adequate health insurance

  • meet the genuine temporary entrant requirement

Length of stay

  • Up to 5 years

Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590)

The Subclass 590 visa allows you to stay in Australia to provide care and support for a student visa holder under the age of 18 years of age or older (unless exceptional circumstances apply)

To be eligible for the Subclass 590 visa, you must:

  • be a parent, a custodian or a relative

  • be able to provide for the student

  • have enough money for your stay

  • make welfare arrangements (if under 18 years of age)

  • meet character and health requirements 

  • purchase adequate health insurance

  • meet the genuine temporary entrant requirement

Length of stay

  • Up to 5 years


TRAINING VISA (SUBCLASS 407)

The Subclass 407 visa allows you to stay in Australia to complete a workplace-based training (to improve your skills for your current occupation, area of tertiary study or field of expertise) or a professional development training program.

To be eligible for the Subclass 407 visa, you must:

  • have an Australian employer who is an approved sponsor

  • be nominated by the sponsor to participate in a program for occupational training (unless your sponsor is an Australian Commonwealth Government agency)

  • be at least 18 years of age

  • meet character and health requirement

  • have adequate health insurance

  • be a genuine temporary entrant

Length of Stay

  • Up to 2 years
